LEATHER - Most commonly used leathers are double tanned and double fat-liquored for better grade work shoes boots. Chrome tanning also makes the leather more durable. The leather is then retanned with natural tree bark extract. The bark tannage gives the leather flexibility and allows it to mold to the foot to provide each wearer with a custom fit. After the two tanning processes, the leather is drum fat-liquored. Natural grease, oil, fats and waxes are milled into the hide. This softens the leather without loosening its fiber structure. The second fat-liquor application is done at high temperature to plate the materials into the leather. Due to the large volume of tanning materials this leather can only be used in genuine welt construction shoes.

WELT CONSTRUCTION - The sewn-on welt or indirect attachment of the shoe bottom to the shoe upper, offers better shape retention than any other construction. This construction also enables the shoe to be repaired a number of times. The PVC welting is waterproof. The welted shoe is more comfortable because the cavity below the welt is filled with cork, which cushion the foot.

CORK BOTTOM FILLER - The shoe shank is placed in a cavity formed by the rib and welt between the in-sole and the mid-sole. We fill this cavity with a BioFlex® Cork material. Cork, with 50% of its volume consisting of air locked up in a closed cellular system, provides flexibility, water repellency, low density and durability. It affords excellent shock absorption and insulation for those standing on their feet all day. Cork conforms to the shape and size of the wearer's foot creating anatomical footbeds to cradle the foot.

SHANK - Tru-Fit shank is made from reinforced fiberglass. It is 50% - 70% lighter than steel and is a good insulator against heat and cold. The material has excellent shape memory and shape retention enabling it to return to its original shape or form following extreme bending or flexing. Since the shank is applied to the shoe or boot in a flexible state, it can be fitted to the exact contour of the shoe bottom.

INSOLE - PORON® Performance Urethanes offer superior comfort and performance for the life of the shoe. The open cell, breathable materials wick away moisture and keep the foot cool, offer excellent resistance to compression set and have outstanding shock absorption. PORON® offers lightweight cushioning that will not bottom out with wear or become brittle with age.

FOOTBED - The insole has been compression molded into an anatomically correct shape. It provides arch support, and metatarsal and heel cushioning. The Plus Foam is breathable and will absorb moisture from the footbed through the wicking action of the Dri-lex. The strike area of the heel is further cushioned with a Shock Plug of PORON®. The PORON® has excellent cushioning properties, and less than 3% compression set. The footbed is lightweight, breathable and retains its shape.

LINING - Dri-lex® is the world's premier moisture management lining footwear. As the body emits moisture and moisture vapor, the Hydrofil® on the backside of the material draws the moisture through the polyester buffer against the body, absorbing and desorbing the moisture by promoting rapid evaporation.

COUNTERS FOR HEEL - Counters are made from a non-woven fabric saturated with thermo plastic resins and hot melt coated on both sides. This results in a water resistant and resilient product. Through continued wear and moisture absorbed from the foot, our counters retain their firmness and shape.

MIDSOLE - In welt constructed footwear the midsole acts as a platform bringing together the welt and outsole. Our low gravity SBR ( styrene butadiene rubber ) material resists stitch tear, for good welt retention, and excellent bonding to the outsole.

STEEL TOE - Steel toe caps are made from high carbon steel suitable for heat treatment and hardening to increase its strength. The hardening process used increases the steel's tensile strength by 200%-300%. All caps are coated with zinc crystalline phosphate plus rust inhibitor to prevent corrosion.

OUTSOLES - Poly-Plus outsoles are made from an advanced microcellular polyurethane material developed for lightweight, long wearing, shock absorbent comfort. This oil resistant formula is suitable for a wide range of environments, from hot and humid conditions ( hydrolysis resistant ) to extreme cold conditions ( cold insulator plus low temperature flexibility ).
